Global warming is just another incarnation of leftist catastrophism, in the service of the eternal quest for social justice. Warm-mongers are well compensated for their zeal. Look at how far Al Gore has come since putting on the cloak of earth salvation. Scientists and journalists who jumped on the bandwagon are doing pretty well too.

It's convenient, and it pays well. Plus, you get invited to more parties.

I'm continually astounded at the stupidity of so-called scientists, and other Democrats, who think that TV commercials with bullshit statistics constitute scientific evidence.

I think what is even more telling is in the last paragraph: "Climate change is just a symptom, though an increasingly salient one. I suggest that the core problem lies in our collective failure to consider what human decency means and to use that understanding to manage what money means. We don't have to listen to people who get that backwards."

I wonder if Mr. Tobis understands that what he is really saying is "I (or we, the far-left) will decide what is considered decent, and capitalism is inherently oppressive to so many by so few, therefore indecent. So, to even the playing field, we will use the current fad, Global Warming. Global Warming is a means to an end to put fairness back into humanity. And we will not listen to (suppress) anyone who doesn't agree."

I'm no historian or polical scientist, but isn't that pretty much the Marxist model, but with Global Warming as the vehicle?

I find it ironic that Mr. Tobis wrote earlier in the blog "Is one a Marxist or even a Stalinist for pointing out that economists are not, themselves, necessarily right about everything?"

The UN has already adopted a plan called "Agenda 21" which calls for the standard of living to be lowered in rich countries, and to stay low in poor countries. I urge everyone to contact their elected officials and demand that Agenda 21 be repealed (and that the US not sign on to it).
